Birthday Makeup – Product Breakdown & ‘Baking’ Method

Over the weekend I had the pleasure of doing makeup on my good friend Kristina, who you guys might recognise as the beauty editor from dropdeadgorgeousdaily.com. For her birthday dinner, we went for a super highlighted/contoured look, with a bronze eye & big juicy Kylie Jenner inspired lips! Here is a full product breakdown on how I achieved this look.

 BASE/FACE

So before anythingI always start with skincare. I think skincare is so important & certainly one of the, if not the most important part of the whole makeup routine. So for this I started off with the Embryolisse moisturiser all over her face & Sisley Instant Perfect in her t-zone, also making sure her under eyes are extremely hydrated I used Bobbi Brown Hydrating Eye Cream.  Before applying any face products I let it soak into the skin for a good 10-15 mins while I move onto eyebrows, of which I used the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Powder ‘Ebony’. For her Skin I used a mixture of Camouflage Cosmetics Foundation & Estee Lauder Double wear Foundation. Concealer was Kryolan Dermacolour set with Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Powder. To set this I used the ‘baking’/’cooking’ method which is basically (as demonstrated below) packing on a loose powder underneath the eye, and also various parts of the face, I let it sit there for a good 10 minutes (give or take), this allows the product & emollient to sink into your skin for a smooth, pore less finish. I’ll be going into more detail about this in a future video. For the contour I used Bobbi Brown foundation stick ‘Almond’, MAC Studio Careblend/Pressed Powder ‘Medium Dark’ & NARS ‘Casino’ Bronzer. For Blush NARS Gilda & MAC ‘Warm Soul’ were used, and the highlight was Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector pressed in ‘Moonstone’.

EYES/LIPS

For the eyes, we kept it fairly simple (compared to what we usually do haha!) I first applied MAC Paintpot ‘Soft Ochre’ as a base, started off the look with blending in some Makeup Geek ‘Peach smoothie’ into the crease, then packed on MAC ‘Sable’ into the socket & blended upwards, a dark brown shade from the Tom Ford ‘Cognac Sable’ palette was pressed onto the lid. Eyeliner was Makeup Geek ‘Immortal’, also smudged into the powder lash line & blended out with MAC ‘Sable’. Kristina already had her lashes on but we stacked some Model Rock Lashes (cant remember the exact style) on top. Lips were just MAC Lipliner ‘Soar’.

Sorry for the low quality iPhone shots, didn’t have my camera at hand! But it was such a fun & flattering look! Leave a comment & let me know your thoughts on this glam, and if you’d like to see more in depth product breakdowns!

  1. Hi Heidi,

Could you please break down in depth the process for setting the under eye concealer? I’ve seen a YouTube video where they pack on the powder to set using a damp sponge/beauty blender. When you say pack on do you pack on with a puff or a brush or sponge? Please let me know!

    Thank you!

    1. Hey girl! I will be making a video on it & really going in depth on the whole process. It honestly depends, I sometimes use a puff but usually a damp sponge (one of those wedges you can get at any beauty supply store) xx

  2. Can i ask how you applied the kryolan dermacolour as when i use this it gets all cakey and dry. Also which colour did you use??

I am a nc42 in mac with serious dark circles, would love to try this method on myslef.

    Many thanks!

    1. I first scrape out a bit and but it on my hand as the warmth of my hand emulsifies the product making it smoother & easier to apply, then I just use a concealer brush & blend it out with a damp beauty blender. I don’t remember the colour exactly, it was one of the lighter warm toned ones x
